When is this shitty weather going to end…are we doomed for all eternity….
Ok enough whining!
Race at Manawa this weekend…woohoo although if the forecast holds on race day it will be another postponed race for the season…sigh!
That said, my training schedule has been all f’ed up since getting back from NM, partly because of the weather, party because of my hectic schedule. In two weeks I think I have ridden 4-5 times….not good…hopefully I have some level of fitness for the potential race on Saturday.
That said…Memorial Day yielded one set of good rides. Rode with Becky first thing in the morning to Zorinsky lake and back…round trip 20 miles…flat, but pretty ride…but it was a city bike path…not useful for hard training. It was a lite warmup ride for me though. Afterwards got out GARY 2.0 and headed out to tranquility park with Jared. The rain the night before left it a soggy mess…we did one lap at a pretty reasonable pace picking up enough mud and grass (THOR dude was cutting the weeds and tall grass back to reveal the trail) to warrant a one and half hour bike cleaning session after the ride. Ah yes peanut butter mud with wheat grass, a nice organic dietary mix for the bike…unfortunately too much is a bad thing….the bike gained about 10 pounds on that lap…
I led Jared around since it was his first time. Unfortunately I got us lost several times due to the new trail reroutes which seemed confusing at times. All in all though the new trail though adds alot to the course, now at 6 miles (originally 4.8) with more climbing and more switchbacks to prolong the suffering. Should be interesting on race day in August.
As for Becky, shes kicking off the training program…she had some neck pain…we might check the bike fit but most likely its because shes just getting into the longer rides now and her season is kicking off a little late…Not a bad ride though…we averaged 12.6mph and did the 20 miles in 1hr 45 minutes. Considering shes just starting out the season, she’s kicking off with ride times equivalent to what she finished at last year…so we can only go up from here…Either way I’m sure Bella was happy to be out of the house for a change.
As for nutrition,
Ride day breakfast was canteloupe, special K, fried egg whites, and toast.
Post ride was Amy’s Organic cheeze and pesto frozen pizza (I liked it, Becky didn’t). Note: I learned afterwards that it is not the most healthy pizza out there so won’t be buying it again.
Heart Rate Data:
Ride with Becky; AVG HR 105 at 12.6mph pace, MAX HR 146 (small effort cresting the hill at Pacific St.)
Tranquility Ride with Jared; AVG HR 162 over 6 miles, MAX HR 188 (top of first climb)
